who aren’t afraid to fly
it takes a bold person
who isn’t afraid to die
to embrace ambition
to pursue a goal
and bring it to fruition

Interview With an Old Cat
Bob the Cat was interviewed one day
by a curious kitten
who wouldn’t stay away
“How did your ears get that way?“
But Bob wouldn’t say
“How old are you?”
Bob told him to go away
“What do you do all day?”
Bob replied “Skip the survey”
so
the kitten finally had to concede
the old grouch wouldn’t proceed
and there’d be no interview
no wise worldview
from an old cat
like that

A Day at the Seashore
Warm salty waves
splashing on the seashore
soaking beach sand
hear the roar
as the tide dances
on the ocean floor
hear the seagulls
and watch them soar
while walking along
the seashore

Feel Good Fantasies
in the book of life
there needs to be
a chapter on fantasy
where reality
retreats
and good vibes soar
with special fantasies
that help restore
vigor
**

some wear vanity
like a king’s crown
unaware they look
like a vain clown
their fake façade
is easily exposed
as being a fraud

Baby Eyes
there are no lies
in a baby’s eyes
no prejudice
just innocence
seeking love
from above
**
A Dime for an Epiphany
If I had dime for every epiphany
that I’ve had
it would add
up to a lot of money
however
remembering
those moments of inspiration
when something became clear
never lingered long enough
for them to physically appear
alas! my fleeting epiphanies
will never persevere
**
Watching the Dice Dance
white hot heat on a Texas day
boys gathered in the shade
of a deserted alleyway
watching dice dance
and passing the time
each waits for a chance
ready to roll anytime
“seven” was the lone sound
as the dice danced on
the ground
“craps!” the others cried
In the shaded alleyway
collective joy amplified
during their child’s play

Piano Man
play a tune for me
on ebony and ivory
something simple
a delightful ditty
with your nimble
fingers
teasing a tune
that I can croon
a melody
to make me happy
**
When Books Are Burned
ashes… ashes
fall down
to the ground
when books burn
knowledge goes
up in smoke
in a moment
of madness
that generations
will forever regret
